Margaretta Niles
Margaretta Niles began working with clay when she moved to Bucks County, PA. after a life spent in social service volunteer work, free-lance editing and bringing up two children. She worked with Joyce Inderbitzen, a potter working at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria and then at the 92nd Street Y, a hospitable and well organized studio offering classes and workshops and studio time to a close community of potters. She retired to the country in Northeastern PA but continues to study, most often at Peters Valley Craft Education Center where she is on the Board. She enjoys working with clay because it combines the physical pleasure of using the body as a tool with the intellectual pleasure of pursuing a calm center in the process of making singular and functional pieces which offer delight to the people who use them.
