Rowell Bowles

Rowell Bowles, painter and watercolorist, is known in the diplomatic world as Newton R. Bowles C.M., longest serving Canadian at the United Nations who was awarded the Order of Canada 2002. Cited for “exemplary merit and achievement” for his UN career, primarily with UNICEF, he served as director of worldwide operations and, as his C. M. citation reads: “is recognized around the world as an expert on major issues affecting children in developing countries.” At the same time, he has maintained a disciplined pursuit of his art and an active exhibition schedule since the 1950’s in Toronto, Montreal and the Maritimes.
